In a significant move to reshape digital education in Malaysia, the International University College of Management and Sports (ICMS) officially launched its strategic collaboration with Alibaba Cloud Academy at its campus in Petaling Jaya. Held under the theme โEmpowering the Next Digital Workforce,โ the event brought together leading voices from tech, academia, and industry to celebrate a shared vision, preparing students for future-ready careers in cloud computing, AI, and cybersecurity.
At the heart of this partnership is the introduction of the Diploma in Computer Science, now enhanced with globally recognized certifications from Alibaba Cloud Academy. The integrated program offers a powerful combination of academic knowledge and practical, cloud-based skills to help students stand out in an increasingly competitive job market.
During the launch ceremony, Datoโ Nathan Mahalingam remarked, โThis partnership is more than just a collaboration. It is a launchpad. We are giving our students direct access to cutting-edge tools, platforms, and certifications that can open doors both locally and globally.โ
The event was attended by representatives from various sectors including education, tech startups, cybersecurity firms, government agencies, and private industry. Through panel discussions and keynote sessions, guests explored Malaysiaโs growing need for digital talent, especially in cloud infrastructure, data management, and AI development. A key takeaway from these conversations: academic institutions must evolve beyond traditional teaching methods and align with industry demands, a challenge that ICMS is addressing head-on through this initiative.
Empowering ICMS Students with Future-Proof Skills
Students enrolled in this new program will benefit from a truly holistic learning experience.
Beyond core academic modules, they will:
- Receive Alibaba Cloud certifications without additional cost
- Access over 180 free online trainings and labs provided by Alibaba Cloud Academy
- Use real cloud servers (Elastic Compute Service – ECS) to build their own applications and innovations
- Participate in tech competitions, internships, and a student ambassador program
- Develop hands-on expertise in cloud computing, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence
These opportunities provide students with tangible skills and real-world exposure, key differentiators that improve their employability in both local and international markets.
According to Dr. Jawad Shah, Senior Training Advisor at Alibaba Cloud Academy, โWe believe in not just teaching, but transforming lives. With this, ICMS students wonโt just graduate with a scroll. They will graduate with skills.โ
A Shared Commitment to Digital Transformation
The event also featured a distinguished panel of speakers who brought diverse insights to the stage:
- Dr. Jawad Shah, Alibaba Cloud Academy
- Dr. Obay, Founder, AIC4ALL
- Mr. Tan Chin Chun, Solutions Architect, Alibaba Cloud
- Mr. Wong Zhi Heng, Founder, Dah Reply
Moderated by Ms. Josphine Savariraj, AI Project Head at Lern360.ai, the discussion emphasized the critical importance of digital literacy, continuous learning, and collaborative ecosystems in building a resilient workforce for tomorrow.
ICMSโs move to integrate cloud certifications into its curriculum reflects a broader commitment to support Malaysiaโs digital economy blueprint. As industries pivot to automation, data-driven decision-making, and cloud-first infrastructures, the demand for cloud-skilled professionals is skyrocketing and ICMS is preparing its students to fill that gap.
Looking Forward
This partnership positions ICMS as a forward-thinking institution committed to closing the gap between education and employability. Through strategic collaborations like this, the college not only enhances its academic offerings but also supports national efforts to nurture a tech-savvy and innovation-driven workforce.
